Week 5:

Under His Wings

“After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive.  He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.”-- Acts 1:3

Daily Scripture Readings

Day 1: Read John 20:1-18

  • How do the disciples first hear of Jesus’s resurrection?

  • Why do you think the disciples act the way that they do in this passage?

  • With which of these people do you best identify?  Why?

 

Day 2: Read John 20:19-29

  • What are the disciples doing at the beginning of this passage?

  • Try to put yourself into the scene.  What would your honest reaction be to seeing Jesus standing among you, speaking peace?  What would your reaction be hearing about the experience second-hand, like Thomas?

  • Can you relate in any way to Thomas’s doubt?

 

Day 3: Read John 21

  • How does Jesus approach the disciples in this passage?

  • How does this experience heal and strengthen them?

  • With which of the disciples do you best identify in this passage? Why?

 

Day 4: Read Acts 1:1-11

  • What does it say Jesus did during the 40 days between his resurrection and ascension?

  • How do you think the disciples felt during this time?

  • Can you relate to their experience in your own life?

 

Day 5: Read Acts 2:

  • What happens on Pentecost?

  • What evidence do we have that the disciples have broken free from their old expectations and fears?

  • Listen for how this Scripture might speak into your own life.  Record any thoughts you may have.

 

Day 6: Review the Scripture readings from this week.

  • What stands out the most to you?  Why?

  • What do you feel that you most need from God this week?

  • Summarize your prayers.
