Desiring God’s Will

Aligning Our Hearts with the Heart of God

by David Benner

Summary

Benner argues that God, who is Himself a community of love, wants to establish a reign of love in the world in and through us.  He does so through Jesus, who leads us into an experience of the Father’s love and grace and then draws us to a place by His side in the work of the Kingdom.  Jesus captures our heart and begins a transforming work of love.

As we move toward the heart of God, we learn to be guided by Him.  We feel a deep inner peace, or consolation, whenever our lives are oriented toward His heart and an inner turmoil, or desolation, whenever we turn away.

“Surrendering to God’s will makes little sense if we are not first convinced of the depths of God’s love for us.  But surrender is far from complete and we have yet to unwrap the gift of our true-self-in-Christ until we are fully convinced of the absolute trustworthiness of God’s will.”

Come and join me so that I may first lead you to the Father’s healing love and saving grace.  Then take up your place beside me—sharing my labor, sharing my suffering and sharing the victory that is certain.’”

“Dare to encounter the courtship of the Divine Lover of your soul!”

“The cross reminds us that it is in pain and suffering that we experience our transformation—not in our efforts to improve ourselves or avoid sin.”
