Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman's Soul

by Stasi & John Eldredge

Summary

This book is the feminine counterpart to The Way of the Wild Heart. Here John and his wife, Stasi, celebrate the unique way that the female soul was created. This book presents a refreshing and inspiring view of women. Far from the messages that we often hear in the Church—that of our role as ‘helpmeet’ whose highest purpose is to come under and lift up our husbands, or possibly more damaging, that of the absurdly unattainable Proverbs 31 woman—John and Stasi explore the unique beauty and fierce heart that God gave the world when he created Eve.

Woman was God’s Crown of Creation—displaying his beauty, mercy, and hope. Creation was not officially ‘good’ until Eve was in it. For woman is life-giving, life-saving, and relationship-focused. A warrior princess with a great purpose to live out on behalf of others in the world (including her men).

This is a powerfully exhortative book, which I’m thankful Stasi devoted her fierce heart to for a time.

Favorite Quotes

“There is something fierce in the heart of a woman… A woman is a warrior too.  But she is meant to be a warrior in a uniquely feminine way.”

“Now can you see how the desires of a man's heart and the desires of a woman's heart were at least meant to fit beautifully together? A woman in the presence of a good man, a real man, loves being a woman.  His strength allows her feminine heart to flourish. His pursuit draws out her beauty. And a man in the presence of a real woman loves being a man. Her beauty arouses him to play the man; it draws out his strength.  She inspires him to be a hero. Would that we all were so fortunate.”

“Tender and inviting, intimate and alluring, fiercely devoted. Oh yes, our God has a passionate, romantic heart. Just look at Eve.”

“A woman of true beauty offers others the grace to be and the room to become.”

“You are a woman. An image bearer of God. The Crown of Creation. You were chosen before time and space, and you are wholly and dearly loved. You are sought after, pursued, romanced, the passionate desire of your Fiancé, Jesus. You are dangerous in your beauty and your life-giving power. And you are needed.”
