Walking Humbly

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.

And what does the Lord require of you?

To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” — (Micah 6:8)

What exactly does it mean to walk humbly? Humility is one of those difficult, churchy words we tend to use a lot but without a solid understanding of what we actually mean by it. For Christians, this word is all too often associated with putting ourselves down or allowing others to do so. But how can that be what it really means when scripture tells us that God made us in His image (verse), higher than angels (verse), as a masterpiece created for a purpose (Ephesians 2;10)

In this study you will find a collection of materials relating to the idea of walking humbly. These materials include scripture, liturgy, song lyrics, spiritual writings, and other sources. The accompanying discussion questions are designed to encourage discussion in a small group setting.

Fair warning: This study does not provide a definitive answer to the question of humility. Rather, it is intended as a platform for helping a community of believers to wrestle together for deeper understanding of this challenging concept.
