Week #2
Small Group Discussion
Invitation
Mary faces a costly decision about whether or not to partner with God in the work He is planning to do in the world. Remarkably, Mary hardly hesitates before proclaiming her willingness to be used in any way God saw fit to use her.
Scripture Reading for Discussion: Luke 1:26-38
Opening Question:
What stands out to you about God’s invitation to Mary?
Core Question 1:
Our fundamental vocation (purpose) as human beings is to praise, love, and serve God and others. How do you think Mary was living out this vocation before the angel’s visit?
Core Question 2:
How is Mary uniquely created to partner with God in this new work that He is doing in the world? How will she be able to praise, love, and serve God and others through this work?
Core Question 3:
According to David Benner in Desiring God:
“God’s will is that you discover the fullness of life that is uniquely possible in surrendering to divine love and taking up your calling in the kingdom of God.”
What things will Mary have to give up in order to partner with God as the mother of Jesus? How will her life be fuller as a result?
Concluding Question:
How have you been living out your fundamental human calling to praise, love, and serve God and others? How have you experienced fullness of life as a result?
