“The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.” - Matthew 4:18-19

Scripture: Matthew 4:12-17

As the Son of God, Jesus could have chosen to come to earth to display His power and greatness.  Instead, He chose humble surroundings, coming as a helpless baby born to lowly human parents.  He leads a surprisingly ordinary childhood. And as an adult He spends much of His time in the countryside, far from worldly splendor and prestige.

And yet, His life has tremendous significance. Like a small candle, shining in the darkness, Jesus transforms the world. And He leaves behind a close-knit band of followers with the task of tending the flame after He is gone.
