Week #16

Resurrection

Scripture Reading: Luke 24

Opening Question:

What part of this passage stands out most to you?

Core Question 1:

What surprising things happen in this passage? How do you think the disciples are felling now?

Core Question 2:

How does Jesus’s death and resurrection compare to what He had been telling His disciples all along? Why do you think the disciples couldn’t see that Jesus’s was fulfilling God’s purpose through His death?

Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. He will be delivered over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him and spit on him; they will flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.” — Luke 18:31-33

Core Question 3:

What does Ken Gire, author of Shaped By the Cross, believe about death and resurrection? Do you agree?

Help me to realize, as someone once said,

That nothing will be resurrected that has not first died.

Reveal that part of me, Lord,

The part that resists the cross, refuses the tomb.

Help me realize that resurrection is your work;

And that dying is mine.

In the precious name of Jesus,

Who showed us not only how to live

But how to die.

Concluding Question:

What does it mean for us to be Easter people? Why is Jesus’s resurrection crucial for us as His followers?
