Week #15

Jesus as Love

Scripture Reading: Luke 22:1-38

Opening Question:

What part of this passage stands out most to you?

Core Question 1:

How do we see Jesus loving others in this passage?

Core Question 2:

How does Judas’s betrayal fulfill Old Testament prophecy?

“Even my close friend, someone I trusted, one who shared my bread, has turned against me.” — Psalm 41:9

“And the Lord said to me, ‘Throw it to the potter’—the handsome price at which they valued me! So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the potter at the house of the Lord.” — Zechariah 11:13

Core Question 3:

What does Beth Moore, author of Audacious, believe about what it cost God to love us?

“The Eternal One knew the end from the beginning and foresaw what would be as clear as if it had already been.  The fall of man would happen early on and, if the Godhead had no intention for redemption, the Word that would speak the planets into orbit might as well save His breath.  Would the Father be willing to let the Son out of His arms and release Him to an orb heaving and quaking with sin?  Would they be willing to pay what redemption would cost?”

Concluding Question:

How does Jesus behave as Love Incarnate (the love of God made flesh)? What can we, as His apprentices, learn from His words and actions?
