True Authority

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders, and sin that so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)

Jesus not only taught about Kingdom values, He consistently lived them out.  A pattern of behavior that was as counter-cultural then as it is now.

So much of our modern society seems to be based on the “Do as I say, not as I do” model.  People sit in positions of authority, saying one thing while doing the opposite.

Our schools proclaim the value of life-long learning to kids, yet the adults leading them sometimes get stuck in a rut of doing things the way they have always done them.  We have a government structure in place for the purpose of maintaining law and order, yet the people running this structure seem to be some of the most unruly, poorly behaved people on the planet.  And even our churches, which preach a message of love and unity, have more than their fair share of scandal, corruption and dissension.

Only Jesus remains forever trustworthy and true.  He is the only teacher who carefully follows all of His own teachings.  He is the only leader who will never disappoint us.

Meditation

Consider that Jesus never tells us to do anything that He Himself was not willing to do while He was on earth.

Into what situation in your life do you need to invite the companionship of Jesus right now?
